Ear Infections and tubes

My son has had multiple ear infections. i think he's up to about 8 - 10 of them by now. every time he gets an ear infection he gets on an antibodic. which isn't always good. the doctors recammend that we go see a specialist about ear tubes. are you familiar with ear tubes? have your children gotten them? i won't lie i'm scared to have him get them. and i'm really unsure what to do at this point. so i wanted to know what you thought and if your children have gotten them if they worked and your experience with them.
